Work Featured in International Artist Magazine

I’m excited to finally be able to announce the publication of Mitch Albala‘s article, “The Power of Notan in Landscape Composition” in the August/September 2013 issue of International Artist Magazine in which my painting, Leafy Hideway, in featured. This article has been over a year in the works, and I’m deeply honored to have one of my paintings chosen to illustrate the concept of Notan. Check out the links for more information and an explanation of Notan, a concept new to me in strict academic terms, but not new intuitively. The magazine should be available for purchase at any well stocked newsstand through most of September 2013.

Gallery Showings, Miscellaneous |10x10x10 Tieton and Art Port Townsend

I’ve been lax yet again in getting the word out about recent events. There is still time to catch the 10x10x10 Tieton show in Tieton, WA. Two of my oil on panel camper paintings juried into the show and have been on view since the mid-August opening. The show will be up until October 2, 2011. The drive across the mountains from Seattle is reason enough to make the trek, particularly if you can return via Chinook Pass and Mount Rainier. It reminded me why I came out to the Pacific NW 25 years ago! Unfortunately, I totally missed mentioning the Art Port Townsend show that came down last weekend. Two of my cake paintings were juried in by Gary Faigin, of Gage Academy in Seattle, and Corner Piece (Gluttony), pictured in an earlier blog entry, won a Merit Award.

I’m delighted to be participating in a joint show with my good friend, Karen Hackenberg, at Northwind Arts Center in Port Townsend, WA. We pulled together a comprehensive selection of our respective work for Material World, and therefore the show provides an excellent opportunity to see the scope and development of our art over the past few years. Material World runs through May 2, 2011.

Catch a preview of my new work at Museo Gallery in Langley, WA. Saints and Sinners opened with great fanfare on January 22, 2011 and runs through the end of February. The two paintings I created for the exhibition contrast the virtue of constraint with the sin of gluttony.
